Today we received a lecture from Ben Craven in which he highlighted the usefulness of using feasibility calculations at early stages in the design process. By carrying out some simple calculations at the concept stage of design, it can enable us to assess whether the project can be a success or not and therefore hopefully not waste time on developing an idea that simply won’t work.
For example, we calculated in the lecture that a the energy used by one person flying to Singapore and back is the equivalent of making about 80,000 cups of tea.
The lecture highlighted the usefulness of the technique and it is something that I will definitely be adopting in the future.
